Cannes Film Festival is one of the most awaited affairs in the world. Yesterday May 13, 2009 the 62nd International Cannes Film Festival got underway with the traditional red carpet parade and a glamorous evening gowns glittered in Cannes, France.

The festival continues on the French Riviera until 24 May, when the winner of the Palme d'Or will be announced. The Pixar's 3D glasses was at hand as the 62nd Cannes Film Festival opened. This is the first time an animation has launched the event.

"Up"'s delighted filmmakers from Pixar Animation joined the crowd of stars and cineastes on the red carpet in this French Riviera resort and said being invited to Cannes was a dream come true.

"We're just a bunch of animation geeks from northern California on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival," said a beaming John Lasseter, Pixar's creative maestro.

This year’s Cannes jury doesn’t run low on glamor. Members of the jury, led by French actress Isabelle Huppert will be wrangling over which auteurs- the panel includes Asia Argento (found in everything from NC-17 art flicks to Vin Diesel’s XXX), Robin Wright Penn, and Shu Qi from The Transporter among the international coterie of performers and directors. If their appearance at the festival-opening screening of Up is any indication, we should see them in plenty of beautiful outfits before they pick the Palme d’Or.

Scores of celeb-watchers waited patiently outside Cannes's waterside film complex Wednesday, hoping for a glimpse of the stars - any stars.
